VENEZUELAN SUN TIGER TARANTULA

(Psalmopoeus irminia)

Description

The Venezuelan sun tiger is an arboreal species, meaning it is tree- dwelling. The females are usually a deep black with bright orange chevrons on the legs and a tiger-striped pattern on the abdomen. The males are smaller than the females and are a grey/brown colour.

Habitat & Distribution

The Venezuelan sun tiger can be found in rainforest areas in Venezuela, Northern Guyana, and Northern Brazil.

Diet

These tarantulas are insectivores meaning they feed on a variety of suitably sized invertebrates.

Life Span

Females of this species can live for 12 years while males will live for about 4 years.
