THAI STICK INSECTS

(Parapachymorpha zomproi)

Description

Thai stick insects are very slender and, when fully grown, will have a bark-like texture to their body which helps them to camouflage. The females are slightly larger than the males at about 9cm in length while the males reach about 7cm. This species is unable to fly as they do not have wings.

Habitat & Distribution

Thai stick insects are native to the forests of Thailand in South-east Asia. They are particularly abundant in Khao Yai National Park.

Diet

These stick insects are herbivores and feed on a range of different leaves in their natural habitat. In captivity they will feed on plants such as bramble and hawthorn.

Life Span

Thai stick insects will live for about 1 year.

Conservation Status

Least concern.
