NEW RIVER RUST RUMP TARANTULA

(Aphonopelma chalcodes)

Description

The new river rust rump tarantula is blonde in colour with black femurs and reddish/pink hairs on the abdomen. These tarantulas are terrestrial, and they dig their own burrows. They are a solitary species and only come together to breed.

Habitat & Distribution

New river rust rumps can be found in the deserts of Arizona and in some parts of Mexico.

Diet

These tarantulas are insectivores and feed on a variety of medium sized invertebrates such as large crickets and locusts.

Life Span

The females live for about 20 years on average while the males will live for about 8 years.
