MADAGASCAN HISSING COCKROACH

(Gromphadorhina portentosa)

Description

Madagascan hissing cockroaches are oval in shape and shiny chestnut brown through to dark brown in colour. Males have a large set of horns on the head and both males and females have hooks on their feet, which make them excellent climbers.

Habitat & Distribution

Found amongst leaf litter on the forest floor in Madagascar’s rainforests.

Diet

Primarily plant material and rotting fruit although they are opportunistic and will eat anything they can find including decaying animals and animal dung!
