5-Barred Cichilds

(Neolamprologus tretocephalus)

Description

5-bar cichlids are a pale grey in colour with 5 bands of darker grey or black running vertically down either side of their body. When fully grown these fish will be about 15cm in length with the males being slightly larger than the females.

Habitat & Distribution

5-bar cichlids can be found in Lake Tanganyika in Africa. This lake is shared between four countries – Tanzania, Burundi, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Diet

In the wild, these fish have a varied diet. They are omnivores and will feed on algae, aquatic plants, aquatic invertebrates, and sometimes even crab and smaller fish.

Life Span

These fish will live for about 5-8 years.

Conservation Status

Least concern.
