(Amazona barbadensis)
Yellow-shouldered Amazon parrots are green with a yellow head and shoulder patches, white forehead and a red flash on their wings. They have a blueish tinge on their lower cheeks and chin and dark blue tips to their wings. On average they are about 33 cm in length from head to tail tip.
These parrots are typically found in arid habitats, such as desert scrub and dry forests in northern areas of Venezuela, South America.
They feed on a variety of fruits, seeds and flowers and frequently consume parts of cactus plants.
Near threatened.
They are extremely sociable and sometimes roost communally in very tall trees, with up to 700 parrots in one group!
These parrots usually nest in holes in trees, cliffs or cacti and the females lay 2-5 eggs at a time.
These birds are extremely long lived, with a lifespan of at least 50-60 years!
