Yellow shouldered Amazon parrot

(Amazona barbadensis)

Description

Yellow-shouldered Amazon parrots are green with a yellow head and shoulder patches, white forehead and a red flash on their wings. They have a blueish tinge on their lower cheeks and chin and dark blue tips to their wings. On average they are about 33 cm in length from head to tail tip.

Habitat & Distribution

These parrots are typically found in arid habitats, such as desert scrub and dry forests in northern areas of Venezuela, South America.

Diet

They feed on a variety of fruits, seeds and flowers and frequently consume parts of cactus plants.

Conservation Status

Near threatened.
