When threatened, mossy frogs will play dead by curling into a ball.
Although these frogs are currently not endangered, they face threats
from deforestation and the illegal pet trade.
(Theloderma corticale)
These frogs are varying shades of green with black spots and they are covered in tubercles (wart-like growths). This coloration and texture make them look almost exactly like a piece of moss so they are very well camouflaged. Mossy frogs will grow to between 7 and 8cm in length and females are usually bigger than males. They have sticky toe-pads to help them climb and position, and they have powerful back legs for jumping.
Mossy frogs are native to northern Vietnam, where they can be found in flooded caves and on the banks of mountain streams.
Mossy frogs are insectivores and feed on large invertebrates such as crickets and cockroaches.
The lifespan of these frogs is not known but it is estimated they could live for around 10 years.
