Phantasmal dart frogs are very small, rarely reaching more than 2cm in length. They are visually striking with red or orange bodies and yellow or white stripes running vertically down their body.
The phantasmal poison dart frog is endemic to Ecuador, meaning it can’t be found anywhere else in the wild.
These frogs are insectivores. In the wild they would feed on a variety of small invertebrates including ants, termites, flies and sometimes small spiders.
These frogs could live for up to 15 years in captivity.

Phantasmal frogs are endangered for a number of reasons including habitat destruction, disease and the illegal pet trade.
A drug called ‘Epibatidine’ comes from the poison of these frogs and has pain-killing abilities about 200 times as powerful as morphine!
