BLUE & BLACK POISON DART FROG

(Dendrobates azureus)

Description

These poison dart frogs will reach a maximum of 5cm in length and weigh only 5g. They are bright blue in colour with black patches on their back. Their legs and the sides of their face have no black patches and are usually a darker blue than the rest of the frog. Females are usually larger than males.

Habitat & Distribution

Blue and black poison dart frogs are found in southern Suriname and Northern Brazil in small, isolated areas. Their habitat consists of savannahs, creeks and primary tropical forests.

Diet

Blue and black poison dart frogs are insectivores meaning they feed on invertebrates. In the wild these frogs would feed on caterpillars, ants, termites, flies and occasionally spiders.

Life Span

These frogs could live for up to 10 years.
