Amazon milk frogs can grow fairly large, reaching up to 3 inches. They are dark olive green or brown in colour with large bands of off-white or grey on the body. The belly is also a pale off-white or grey colour. These frogs are good at climbing and have specialised toe pads on their feet to aid with climbing.
These frogs can be found in the canopy of very humid areas of rainforest. They are seen in Bolivia, Brazil, Columbia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.

The name milk frog refers to a white, milky liquid that they can secrete from their body when they feel threatened. This liquid is poisonous and works as a useful defence against predators.
Amazon milk frogs are nocturnal. They spend their days tucked away in tiny crevices within trees, high in the canopy.
These frogs have a very large vocal sack and are capable of producing extremely loud calls; these calls can travel a long distance through the rainforest.
